Has anyone over tried removing/fixing the combination switch at the steering column? My Haynes manual says that the steering wheel/airbag unit has to be removed first. Too much work.

Only reason I want to remove it is to try to check why the headlight would not flash when I pull the switch. I'm guessing that the contact in the combo sw is dirty and needs to be cleaned.
