Orville works in our transportation department as an aide. I believe he is 82 and very sprightly. Last year one time he came to me, when I was waiting by my car. Jim, he said, mind if I slide under that Mercedes and look at that transmission. I said, have at Orville, tell me what you think. Well, a few minutes later he come out from under that W123, with a big grin on his face. He said. "man I haven't seen one of those Slim Jims in many Years." "I think I rebuilt 7500 of them working for a big Pontiac shop in Indy". But he said it looked identical to the Slim Jims. Well, I remember them also. In their day, from 59 to to 1965, they were not considered the greatest GM automatic. They were smoother then the Dual Drive early 4 speeds, but not nearly as robust as the later TurboHydramatics. I suspect Benz bought all the tooling for the Slim Jims, as Rolls Royce bought all the tooling for the Dual Drive Hydramatics.
