They were the right injectors.

It turns out that the shoulder on the inside of the socket was interfering with the return line nipples. Squeezing them a little with pliers helped get the socket on. I was a little disappointed because I bough the socket specifically from one of the well-known diesel mechanics online and it was supposed to work without problem.

I think I bought some of the last injectors on earth, they all seem to be sold out now. I bought them from Autohauz for $38/piece and they have totally eliminated my nailing issues. I am taking my first road trip today from Cincinnati to Nashville and am interested to see how my mileage is now.
