Right side mirror won't.........

This is a familiar problem and is just one of those failures that make it into the JD Power surveys. My '01 C320 has had this problem off and on for the past six years. The first time, it's going to be the mirror selector switch pointing to the wrong mirror. After that, it's one of two things. Either the driver's seat memory module or the mirror motor. My car's seat module (stores seat and mirror positions) has been swapped out several times but this time it looks like it's the mirror motor itself. When it fails, I can move it left and right but not up and down. But it gets well sometimes and starts working again (now, in fact) but the motor/geartrain sounds like it's grinding rocks and is slow. It will be replaced under extended warranty when I can get the car in to the dealer.
There is one thing you might try. Position the mirror by hand and then press the memory and #1 buttons. Simultaneously. That worked once for me.
Forget about dirt in the switches.
