I don't know of any forums but I have found that Books are an endless source of knowledge on this, start with a basic home repair or remodel guide from a bookstore like amazon. Use it as your base and purchase more specific books when you are doing a project that is not specifically covered.
Built my own house like this, although I now know a few contractors and find that there are many many different tricks and shortcuts, some good some hacks. Learn something new everytime I talk to one of them. They are very surprised at my knowledge across the board when it comes to concrete, framing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc... I could not have told you which end of a nail to hit 4.5 yrs ago
