I used to subscribe to This Old House and watch their TV shows. They tend to lean towards more expensive products, but they do have a lot of good info. Plus, if you're more of a visually-oriented person, it's better to be able to see how things are done than to read about it.

Congrats on getting a house. It can be just as satisfying to fix up as an old Benz. Plus, you're more likely to get the money you spend on it back when you sell it!
