In a prior thread, Steve told me that you need a seal of some sort that isn't an easy thing to retrofit. But maybe that was installing a TD tranny in an SD.

It can be done because my 81 SD came to me with a 280E tranny and now it has a 300D tranny. I didn't swap tail housings, I got them that way.
