I'm near St. Louis. It gets plenty hot here in the summer.
But considering the hassle of converting and the fact that R12 isn't scarce, there's really no reason to convert a system.
Both of our cars are factory 134a, so I don't have a dog in this fight. But if I do get an older car, I would pay extra if the AC worked and I knew for sure that it was still on R12.
