You don't need to lower the tranny. You DO need to remove the rear tranny mount, and the bracket that supports the mount. And, you'll need to remove the crosspiece further back, to allow the driveshaft to drop down enough to let the flex disc out. You will need to support the back of the transmission with a jack while the rear mount is removed & lowered. It's not a fun job if you don't have a pit or a lift. Access to the front side of the bolts is very tight.
