Depends if it is the blower fan on the inside of the cabin, or if it is the compressor in the engine compartment.

If it is the blower inside the cabin, something fell down into the path of the blower fan and it is causing the fan to bind up.

To correct this I would remove the lower kick panel to access the blower, remove the blower cover and the blower. I've seen mouse nests, spark plug boxes, leaves, crayons, etc in the blower's path.

If it is in the engine compartment, I'd hazard a guess that the A/C compressor is having issues, either there is not enough oil in the system and it is grinding; or the bearing is going out. At 10 year of age, the compressor bearing is a likely canidate.
