I just checked and the LIST PRICE for the pair is $10...I paid $8 from my dealer...it's the same set the crooks on ebay sell for $27 because they figure you'll just assume they will be cheaper than your dealer and won't even check, but just have your local parts counter order a set and you will have it in 1-2 days, no shipping costs and for much less cost.
To have the right tool is worth $8 in my opinion...the PN is 140 589 02 33 00. If you want to take the time to make a tool that might or might not work right nobody will stop you...just pointing out that for $8-$10 you can have the cluster out in 30 seconds.
They can be very stubborn the first time out especially, and if you make a tool out of a coat hanger it probably will bend before it pulls the cluster out. The proper tool is harded wire that retains its bend and has a nice handle to grip it...couldn't be easier.
