I used to go through a pair of Timberlands, etc. every 6 months or so when I worked in factories. I changed to RedWings and they lasted 3-4 years and could be re-soled. The negatives to 'Wings are mine liked to mildew up badly and always smelled musty. I worked in a damp environment. The insole/arch support is junk. Custom orthotics are highly recommended if you spend your life standing on concrete.
Now I'm in construction and prefer a hiking type boot for climbing, roofing, framing, etc. More flexibility, better ankle support, better traction. Ecco makes a fantastic boot, they wear like iron and are very comfortable if not odd looking and expensive. Currently wearing a set of Dunham's that have lasted a year of construction abuse. Cheaper than Ecco and proving to be pretty durable. RT
