We must somehow get preference voting/instant runoff voting in place. Inertia is strong in this country towards the two parties.
One possibility that I've heard mentioned, Bloomberg/Hagel, has merit but even a $billion from Bloomberg would be hard pressed to counter the established state by state machinery of both parties.
With preference voting, the public could get familiar with voting a third party. No one wants to repeat the Perot or Nader enabling of the other side.
