It's the opposite in my experience I have met many forum members and have close personal and business relationships and have found all of them be the somewhat humble on the forum in comparison to their real life.
One thing that you cannot grasp is many of us have personal relationships outside the forum, in real life. I know you don't have any or many of those but there is a vast, strong network of screen names that are friends outside the forum doors. Authenticity is there whether you want to believe it or not, just because you are on the outside does not mean everyone else is.
The forum is a virtual vehicle for us to chew the fat and laugh at social retards.
