Given where you live, I'd guess if it wasn't in a wetland and more like a lawn, then it was probably Kentucky Bluegrass: Poa pratensis)

The www is full of all manner of info concerning the plant.

If it was in or near a wetland and sort of bunched rather than lawn-like, then it was probably a sedge like Carex kunthii. A beautiful plant virtually unknown outside of a small circle of wildlife biologists and botanists (the seeds are eaten by waterfowl and small birds).
