The almost perfectly straight edges at the separation points lead us to believe that the rear of this car was cut off and another welded on. Probably done back when these cars held enough value to make that cost effective.
It is a chilling example of the degradation that happens to frame strength when it starts getting chopped on.
I know in a large percentage of your posts you always speak of being broke, but you will be throwing money away trying to fix your car. It won't be the last car you love that must go away, just get past the attachment and look for an inexpensive "next attachment". You have a very nice parts car, and what you don't need, others will buy, making you less broke.
So sorry for the potential loss, but make the smart decision. As you know, accidents happen without warning, and you want yourself and any passengers to be protected.
