I am part-time nomenclature police around here, (an extremely un-official title ), and you now happily own a 1985 300D. The fact that it is an '85 model makes it a turbo! They call it a 300DT on amateur night......
Learn it, know it, live it........
And enjoy that new ride. We will require pics...

I will post pics as soon as I take delivery. I am going to be busy with work and won't be able to pick it up right away.
What do you mean by the tach and a/c? What kind of issues do I have to be on the lookout for? The previous owner showed me on the a/c that there is something that is right below the wipers in the engine compartment that you have to pull off and clean every once in a while (6 months) when the a/c goes warm. He never mentioned anything about the tach. The a/c is quite satisfactory compared to an '82 that I used to own.
The transmission shifts much smoother than the earlier diesels and feels great to get it on the open road.
How often should I change oil on a diesel? 3,000 miles?
There is only one thing that doesn't work on the car and that is the cruise. I never go too far and probably wouldn't use it if it did work. The previous owner said he had pulled the tach module out and thinks that he may have not connected something related to the cruise and that is the reason for it not working.
The back window kind of jerks a little coming up. I plan on asking the owner how to fix that. This guy knows everything about the car. It doesn't get any better than this with the mechanics.
I think I learned the "300D" from one of your previous posts. I guess some people think the more letters you add, the better. lol And now that I think of it, they didn't produce any non-turbos in this particular year, so the 300D makes sense.
Is there such a thing as a 300DT? I know the wagon is a 300TD.
Anyway, thanks for your help and advice. I look forward to driving and learning and learning and learning...
