The fuel filler neck seal usually only goes bad if you spill biodiesel. If you clean up after a spill it usually will be okay, but it's defintely something to keep an eye one. If it does go bad it will start leaking into the trunk. The wagons actually have two filler neck seals. The neck goes through the body into the area where the first aid kit, and jack are, and then through the body again to go under the car to the tank.

And it cannot tolerate biodiesel AT ALL. I replaced mine with a new one, and a month later, maybe 3 tanks, it has a hole melted in it. And I'm quite careful about filling. I would just give up on this one.
