if you look at the seal as a cross section, you will notice it has a large round part, and a thin flap. the flap portion of the seal goes up on the inside of the trunk as opposed to putting it on the outside of the circle the trunk opening makes. .. if I was in the SD today, I would take a picture for you. the seal should have a large channel on the outside of the circle for water to collect in, with the flap pointing up toward the decklid to keep water out of the compartment.
