A pilot bearing fits in the end of the crank shaft and carries the end of the input shaft of the manual tranny. An auto tranny car will have the hole in the crank for the bearing but its not needed, gota stick one in when you switch to a manual tranny. The turboed 5 cyl engines are great but you'd be getting into quite a bit more of a project, which is fine if your up for it. I prefer the simplicity of the 616 myself.
