I dunno. My first laptop, a Dell with the infamous Windows ME (Millennium edition -- a fancy title to cover for a $h!tty product) was a complete pain but my newer Gateway notebook with XP Professional has been pain-free.
My house has a late model Mac desktop which I frequently use and for my needs, it's not noticeably better. Some features are a pain in the ass, in fact.
