I always notice a drop of 5 to 10 degrees F during my drive out of the city into the countryside. The "heat island" effect has been well documented, it even affects the weather -- downwind of big cities there is more rain (I think that was the conclusion -- it's been awhile). It's always nice to get actual data from people in various places.

You have indeed had some warm days lately in the Specific Northwest. I trust it will cool down a bit before I arrive in Portland, tomorrow evening (Thursday 12th).
