pressurized fuel line at tank

ok here it is in short story form: 87 190e 2.6l slow to start the other day, smelled raw fuel so i thought i'd open the hood and see what's up. no fuel smell under the hood, so where's it coming from? go to the rear of the car and see a nice little puddle starting to form by the inside of drivers side tire.
(now for the longer version) i recently messed up my back pretty good so i can't go bending and squatting to look at stuff like i used to. so a pal of mine got under the car found a hose leaking. we used the band-aid method of splice-m-up with a chunk of good high pressure fuel hose and clamps. now from what he said the hose isn't very long but has crimped on fittings (and obviously under high pressure) i'd like to make a stainless line to replace this but i need the car (another long story) can any body identify the hose for me i.e. fitting type and thread + length.
