In case of practicer of Islam, there are many factors, primarily among them, fanatics rule and make sure that those who are moderates never get their voice heard. Also now most Muslims believe that the west and Israel has declared war on them and therefore in the name of collateral damage, its Muslim lives that are lost, some of them have nothing to do with terrorists, its sadly a cumulative effect, but this is what fanatics excel in, it has nothing to do with the religion per se just like the fanatics who were protesting at the senate Hindu prayer session had nothing to do with Christ's teachings in any way. The interpretation to act of religion is the key thing here, the fanatic fool things bombing or converting the entire world to his/her way is the only way to salvation and there is nothing wrong in it. They forget call to religion or any faith is an entirely voluntary process, one which comes from within ones self and not via bombings, sword, coercion, etc. Like the Conquistador's of the past, some of the Mughal rulers of India tried that path of conversion by sword, their end result failed, Hindus remained steadfast and Islam never really became the way of choice in India, guess we people like our freedom to worship rats and stones

The much hallowed Taj Mahal is built over one of the holiest Hindu temples as a matter of fact.
I feel the biggest and most dangerous facet in any organized religion is the self apponted and annointed head, the Mullah, priest etc. to keep their agenda and their coffers flowing, they have to take the faith to the extreme and the first basic rule is to be intolerant of those not in the flock. Years back the late pope came during the holiest month of the Hindus, that is Diwali, the festival of lights and in a congregation of Chritians, declared that its Christ that will bring light to these dark area, this was a statement that would have created a furore anywhere but Hindus chose to ignore him and his stupid statement, no riots happened, no Christians were slaughtered.
