I don't really know what the 'similar' comment was ment to imply...

But the snipers are not a part of the market. If they were to disapear tomorrow the market would persist. If there were snipers threatening the Bargersville Flea Market, all of America would be in favor of sending in the troops to help the merchants. So maybe he was trying to draw on the sympathys of the American people by showing everyday Iraqies in a light of familiarity. It sounds more honest a statement than "this market is as safe as a schoolhouse"...
I don't know Pence, but Graham is usually a well spoken and effective lawmaker who is in the unfortunate position of trying to back a loosing proposition. Too bad for him they diddn't assign the job to Hatch, whose vapitity knows no bounds. Then the irony could be complete, as we watched Orin purchase an orange through a tank porthole and pronounce over the PA... "market secure"... before hightailing it out of there at 50mph.

In any event the market comment may be a cause of indignation to some but shouldn't be. The wisdom of or lack of wisdom in, and the effevtiveness or ineffectivness of, the surge is the issue. Not whether the Tomato salesman's display in the Bagdad market is strikingly similar to John Everyman's back home.
