I think there is a greater philosophical issue at stake here than just cup holders
There once was a time when M-B engineers would not even grant you a driver's door electric window lift. They figured it was close enough to warrant a manual crank. Ditto for the drivers door mirror. And no reasonable autobahn pilot would attempt to drive and sip latte at the same time!
