You do not mention whether the key cannot be fully inserted into the locks, or whether when inserted, the key doesn't turn. If the latter, is it possible the Master Key is just too worn to work in those particular locks? I owned an '87 420SEL and the keys were very badly worn.

Another possibility might be that the key you think is the Master is really a Valet Key. To test this, see if the key opens the trunk. I know the keys are physically different, but for the life of me, I cannot remember the difference between Master and Valet keys.

You may want to consider getting a fresh Master Key from your local MB Dealer. Just show them proof of ownership and they can order you a fresh Master Key based upon the factory-installed tumblers.
