You have a problem with where the air cleaner is located. Since you have broken mounts on the air cleaner housing, it is not lined up properly. The U tube should fit and be very tight (there are rubber rings at each end of the U tube to seal it) There should also be ring clamps to hold the tube to the filter and housing. If your rubber seals are old they can be hard and need replacement.I had a similar problem when the air cleaner bracket broke on my 300SD. remove the air cleaner and check the bracket. replacement brackets and rubber mounts are available. I would not drive the car until this is fixed as you could ingest something into the turbo.
