I agree the dealership is normally not setup to find a replacement engine for the older Mercedes, but a car like that could be gone pretty fast. You will be surprise how many people are looking for cars like that. Word of mouth and the internet brings the availability of such a car to a much larger audience. I would get the info from the dealership (head or engine needs replacement?) and then make them an offer. I think the asking price of $2000 is not unreasonable, especially if you have or could find a good low milage engine to drop into.
