Do the valve adj on a weekend, or your next day off. It really is not difficult, just time consuming.
Bad fuel can be an issue. Add some PowerService stuff or Lubromoly to the fuel tank. I get diesel fuel at Wally world also, and have had no issues. There is always a line at the diesel pump. I also hit the truck stop on my route to an from work.
Stop leak is not a good idea, in any engine.
