Fortunately she doesn't ask the same question! She already knows that a W126 is probably going to be her first vehicle...especially with all of the testosterone-laden teens with pickups with large tires and lift kits!
My parents and the parents of my peers generally subscribed to the Sherman Tank philosophy of vehicle selection. Back in the day I switched back and forth from a 4,800 lb Chevy station wagon to a 3,400 lb. Firebird. Most of my friends were driving vehicles that are now the darlings of demo derbies because they were/are so damn hard to total. I had one friend who wrapped a '72 Pontiac Catalina around a pole in a drag race. The car was toast, but the unbelted driver walked away without injury, at least until his father got ahold of him when he arrived home.

It was probably more dangerous to drive a small car back in the Seventies due to the greater mass disparity between small and large cars back then.
