I wonder about this one too. Your chances of colliding with a lighter vehicle now are better and the smaller cars are safer. But, we had the 55mph limit then, now 80mph on the interstate is common. Speeding and running red lights seem more common now.
The override thing is very real. A vehicle setup for off-road use is designed to slide over obstacles. In a collision the design works to override the lower vehicle.
I wish that more people drove like they wanted everyone to get home safely each night. But when people wish with one hand, you gotta wonder what they are doing with the other.
