My wife, pregnant with our daughter at the time, was painting our living room and just happened to have the tv on. We were having our monthly Board of Directors meeting and were just on our way in when my wife called to say that a plane had flown into the WTC. At the time it was still reported to be an isolated accident by a sight-seeing plane. When the second tower was hit she called back in tears. At that point we adjourned the meeting and went into one of the small offices where we have a tv and watched for awhile. We eventually sent everyone home. I went home and just sat on the couch and watched, mouth agape. That's when the speculation that the tower might come down began, and then down they came.
The father of our friends (who had coached me at every stage of youth basketball and soccer) had a sales meeting on the 99th floor of the tower that day. His meeting was supposed to be the preceeding Monday but got postponed. He was so excited as it was his first time going to the towers. The two kids from my high school worked in the second tower (different companies) and we friends of my brother dating back to his youth soccer days.
