That's exactly what 'that money' will be doing by keeping this case in the news. People with nothing better to do (i.e. most news networks) will talk about it endlessly and others like you will start threads on message boards.

I can't think of a way 'that money' could be spent any better to further the cause of pointing out how stupid this pair were.

IMO they should be in clink already,,,, leaving a small child alone like that would be enough to get you locked up in most countries I would think,,, what's the Portugese word for Negligence?
