Not much of an advantage, only about 3mpg.

Now move up to the current Grand Cherokee and the Diesel still has a 3mpg advantage over the V6 but about 7mpg over the V8.

It's only 0.2L and 2 cylinders more, but the Mercedes V6 has 58hp and 81ft/lbs more than the wimpy little VM Motori's 2.8L 4-banger.
