Much gnashing of teeth about NPR et.al. unfairly competeing with private broadcasters. Private broadcasters nonetheless making Major profits with General business. Could be the competition from CPB etc. (Corporation for Public Broadcasting) has forced private media to improve.
Good thing, because in the 50s and early 60s, there was nothing on the publicly owned airwaves that remotely resembled educational programming.
Instead we had psuedo doctors talking about the benefits of smoking.
