Feel free to protest sending a man to Mars. It'll take much longer than Bush has been in office. I support it, you don't. It's both our right to have that opinion.

AFAIK, I have not complained about private media competing with PBS. I think both can exist just fine.
This phobia against having any public support of any media reminds me a bit of some die-hard Stalinist or Maoist turning in their neighbor for having sold a bit of produce for cash. "Ve vill not have any captialist doings in the Socialist Republic!!!"
CPB/PBS/NPR shows take up what, 1 or 2 % of bandwidth? And this is going to imperil private commerce? Have you seen replays of 50s television in the US? Good lord, it was mostly tripe and the adverrtisements were a drug pusher's dream (nicotine, that is).
PBS et.al. raised the standard and I'm not sure we need to pull the plug on them.
On the Mars thing, show me where in the constitution the pres. has a right to "extort" public money for that.
