The integrated spoiler on the trunklid, to which I referred, looks just like the bolt-on piece but was somehow molded right on.

As to the vents, I really have never seen such a thing, other than the 5 slots forward of the front wheel well on a later W124 diesel (like my '92)

So, the mystery continues...
