Before replacing stuff, don't overlook the basics.

One common problem is that parts of the throttle linkage, with all of those little balljoints and plastic wheels gets stuck parts. Make sure everything is returning and leaving idle mode.

Similar symptoms can come from a bad distributor cap/rotor/sparkplug situation as well.
