Regarding Ben Tre, Burkett tracked down the Major in charge of the American detachment in Ben Tre and has correspondance from him re: Arnett's quote - it is Arnett's quote. Interesting bit on Burkett's entry into Vietnam. His dad, a WWII veteran and career Air Force Officer, advised him to not go to Vietnam as he felt Johnson had political reasons for fighting there rather than valid reasons. Burkett agreed with his Dad but felt that he needed to support his country and went anyway. On to Chapter 2.
F*** Arnett. Don't know him or much about him. OK, let's say Arnett made up the line, which was remarkably close to what was actually going on. So Vietnam was a worthy cause that should have been fought for another 30 years, is that it?

Burkett should have listened to his dad. Helping your country to go down a rabbit hole is not actually helping it. Kerry, warts and all, at least saw that and actually took steps to end the damn thing.

Are you ever going to watch the Winter Soldier hearings film or "Going Upriver?" Them pictures tell a few million words.

Or are you going to just take the word of a guy who wasn't smart enough to listen to his old man?
