1987 300D Turbo (W124)

The three-terminal battery wire connector is jammed down between the battery and the shock tower, on the right (passenger) side. See photo.

Regarding pulling the fan -- do you pull the fan from the thermo assembly or the whole thing from the pulley? Looks like 4 or 5 bolts with 10mm heads to do the latter.

The 0-60 time was about 25 seconds when I last checked it. It was slower than my 1985 300D, which still has its trap cat and all. The mechanic did a little better, but still around 20 seconds, after spray lubing the IP linkage. I have driven two other 1987 300Ds, both wagons, and they went pretty well. You could feel the turbo pulling.

This thing acts like an NA car, even though the turbo is new (replaced by dealer, original found damaged during trap cat recall), the boost is there (measured 10-11 psi w/Mitivac), the lines and boost solenoids are clear and working, tested with and without ALDA, etc., vacuum pump and lines all working and in good repair.

From a standing stop, it accelerates (with partial throttle) fairly well but fails to live up to the initial promise. If you immediately floor it from a standing stop, acceleration is even slower. From a rolling 60 MPH on the freeway, acceleration is extremely leisurely unless you use the kickdown switch or shift down manually. Filters (air, fuel, oil) all new in the past thousand miles or so. I suspect the IP or the throttle linkage. (There is a test that can be done to see if the IP reaches its mechanical stop at WOT and it does indeed reach the stop.)
