I thought that the 603 would be like the 617, in which one of the three terminals on the screw terminal block near the battery is for the starter. You can jump one terminal to one of the other two and the starter will run. In my 603, near the brake booster, there's the idle speed select plug and another three-pin plug and socket with a heavy violet/white wire to the center terminal. I shall have to examine the schematic in more detail.

My money is on a plugged cat, or an injection pump that's way out of spec (very low on fuel delivery).
With what would a new oxidation catalyst plug? In any case, the poor performance existed before the recall was performed. It was no better (or worse) immediately afterwards; the dealer who performed the recall called the car "a sled" (in writing!) after the post-recall test drive.

A few minutes ago, driving the car, I made some more 0-60 tests: about 25 seconds. Interestingly, it doesn't matter whether you give the engine part throttle or full throttle, the times are about the same.

I have made an appointment with a new-to-us mechanic, a Mercedes-only indy, for Friday, to look at the IP and its linkage. I suspect that whoever last worked on the engine (before we got the car) has boogered something with the IP. There are several parts of the IP linkage that are held together with plastic cable ties and cable clamps. Who know what else?

I agree with the possibility that the IP is out of whack somehow and not delivering enough fuel. Maybe the new mechanic will be able to get it back in whack.
