I'm a new owner of an '85 500SL, and the radio has not worked since I purchased it. All that appears are dashes across the LCD. I attempted to play a cassette to see if it would work. It accepts it (the tape) and appears to be playing, but no sound. So @ the risk of showing my ignorance in re: these matters... like pulling over and asking for directions... I seek your saged advise.

Or should I not worry about this... take the radio out and upgrade to a CD system?
