380SL heater fan

Removed the heater fan over the weekend. Was shocked at the amount of rust around it. Pulled the shroud off the fan and stood it on end. Gave the bearings several good shots of Liquid Wrench over the course of the day. Cleaned up the rust, and gave it a shot of primer. Put it all back together. No squeaks. Will see how it stay's quiet.

When I was washing the car the next day I noticed the water that would pool in the indentations for the windshield wiper shafts quickly drained beneath the hood. Am I correct to assume that the shafts should be sealed and this is the cause of the rust. Are new seals readily available or is silicon my best course of repair.
