When the engine is spinning at 2500 RPM, isn't it consuming a little fuel each time a cylinder fires? You'll only be breaking even fuelwise if the IP is injecting a little less than 1/3 the amount it injects when idling at 750 RPM.

The IP might go lower than the idle amount, but can it really go that low? If not, you're burning more fuel with the higher idle RPM.
