Glow Plug Light is Dark

Hi everybody,
I have the same / a similar problem. When I bought this car a week ago the GP light worked, started like a dream. Since then, the temp here has really taken a dive (freezing) and now my GP light won't come on at all, no matter how many times I put the key in the "2" position. I replaced all 4 plugs, checked the wires, the 80amp fuse, etc. The plugs are all glowing and the car starts good (although I should really use the block heater on these cold mornings)...I can even hear the relay "clunk" after it shuts off.
...Could there be any other reason why the GP light refuses to light? The only other thing I can come up with is the relay / controller, which is a little too steep for me right now (after ~$50 for GPs) new, and a little too scary to buy used online. Maybe I'm too much of a perfectionist, but I would like to see this light work, even if it is a timer's rough estimation as to when the engine is ready for starting. Should I even be worrying about this? I'm no slouch when it comes to electronics...I've even considered hooking up a detector circuit to change this light so that it indicates when the GPs are on...
