I had a great experience buying off ebay. Between a number of my friends, we've had 4 good experiences and 1 horrible one. I have sold other items and found it to be great.

Regarding the selling of a diesel benz, I think it would probably bring you the most exposure compared to other options. The diesel community that surfs ebay is knowledgeable with very specific tastes.
