The 150 hp that C/D is speculating is more than an adequate amount of power for a car this size, even from a gas engine. Add in the tons of torque from the diesel, and this car will fly (268 lb/ft!?!). The 4 cylinder Accord didn't exceed 150 hp until the 2003 redesign. My first Accord, a 1988 EXi coupe, had the "high powered" engine with a whopping 120 hp. The next one, a 1990 EX sedan, had 135 hp. Both of these cars had good amounts of power for anything you needed the car to do.
With diesel going clean, quiet, and smoke-free I think there's going to be a lot of people keeping it in mind for their next car. The only question becomes availability of diesel if you aren't close to a metropolitan area or a major highway. Does anyone have difficulty getting diesel where they live?
