I believe that some people are very fanatical about Ron Paul because he represents a sizeable portion of the population that have not had ANY real representation in the last decade or so. So they get excited that there is at least ONE person with their viewpoints running. If you're small government sort of person, the last 20 something years of government actions have gone completely against your idealogies. A lot of people are also willing to suspend nuances and little things in their overall viewpoints because they view Ron Paul as the only chance they will ever have for change in a favorable direction.
