don't use a 2x4.. use a large 4x4 or 6x6

yes.. two shock absorbers...

clean out the allen screws prior to unbolting them from the top and bottom.

use a set of vice grips on the shaft to hold it in place so it does not turn.. thus making the job easier. Might as well order some new engine shock top mounts as well if the shocks are shot...
